Local Patch 9 April 2011. Pictures include Wren, great crested grebe, Canada goose, lapwing, mute swan

Local Patch 9 April 2011.. Early migrants have appeared rapidly and in good numbers this week. Blackcaps “dropped in “ at the beginning of April Several willow warblers hung around at the beginning of the week but I haven’t heard them singing since. They are not regular summer visitors normally. Whitethroats were well settled by 7th, this is early and obviously something to do with the fantastic weather we have been having, southerly winds and lots of gorgeous spring sunshine. The big pond now has about 15 pairs of lapwings, two pairs of little ringed plovers, a pair of redshank, gadwall, little grebe as well as black-headed gull, Canada geese and mute swans. I have now seen 7 Roe deer wandering in different areas, looking very healthy. They seem to accept me if I am quiet and don’t stop walking. As soon as I stop to get the camera out ..you’ve guessed it, they run!
